Last year, one of my students won 1st chair Oboe and English Horn in Allstate and was offered generous scholarships for college. This year, I have an 8th grader in Midstate. I teach musicianship, counting and expression while focusing on good oboe techniques and practice skills.
My main oboe teachers were Elaine Douvas, currently Chair of Woodwinds at Juilliard and Principal Oboist with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Grover Schiltz, outstanding former English Horn Soloist with the Chicago Symphony, and John Mack, legendary teacher and former Principal Oboist of the Cleveland Orchestra. My ensemble skills were deeply affected by my participation at the legendary Marcel Moyse Woodwind Seminars and Marlboro Music Festival.
I have taught oboe to children and adults for over thirty years in my Private Studio and in half a dozen colleges in Chicago, IL and Nashville, TN. I am happy to work with beginners and advanced students alike.
I am an enthusiastic teacher with a focus on musical expression and a strong belief that our technique is most valuable as it supports our ability to communicate through the instrument.
I am available for reed making lessons and ensemble couching.
My studio is conveniently located hear I-65 and Ellington Parkway in Nashville, TN.
I am now scheduling online oboe lessons via Google Hangout and Skype.
